BJ. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 8-EX CAR. We have just returned from WW., the above car is at Bond Street Garage. R.{Sir Henry Royce} tried this car at WW. It has been decided to proceed with induction system of the present design as fitted to 8-EX. We are not ready with the new parts as regards knowing what results we shall obtain. 8-EX has 4 1/4 comp. ratio (standard). 9 1/4" pendulum lever. Rubber engine feet. We especially want you to note tappet noise in 8-EX. There is a period with the aluminium engine, when the car is started from cold when the head etc. expands quicker than the tappet rod and the clearance is increased and for a short time (10 mins.) tappet noise may be more pronounced. It depends on rate of warming up. We know of no means of preventing this - it was discussed with R.{Sir Henry Royce} There should be no increase in noise once the engine is warm. Please note the butterfly in the exhaust rattles on 8-EX: do not be deceived by this. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
