For the attention of A.F. Martindale Esq. Dear Sirs, We would refer to your letter of the 28th April with regard to two Ferodo MR.3 linings which you returned to us, and which were stated to have exhibited traces of exudation. We realise that we have been an unconscionable time in giving you a report on these two linings, and perhaps we should confess that we have really been at a loss to furnish you with some positive constructive information on these brake linings. In the first place, we had carried out extensive tests and have failed completely to obtain any trace of exudation. The coefficient of friction is very slightly lower than average but is within our standard limits. The wear value is good - our standard figure for such material being 200 B.H.P. hours per cu. in. whereas this gives approximately 236 B.H.P. hours per cu. in. We did observe slight black stains on the unworn surface of these liners, which appeared to us to have been caused by oil. The quantity was so slight, however, that it was impossible to effect an extraction. Assuming, however, that our surmise that this stain was due to oil is correct, this may supply the reason for the very slightly lower coefficient of friction and also possibly explain the actual exudation which in such a case would be attributed to carbonized lubricant. Yours faithfully, FERODO LIMITED. W.E.Shilton Technical Department. | ||
