The above parts are required for the senior gearbox and have been instructed for same. The works complain that the peening operation for the cones is not satisfactory on account of the cyanide hardening. Difficulty being experienced in protecting the soft parts in the cyanide bath. To overcome this trouble we appear to have two alternatives - (a) Rely upon the press fit of the cones alone to retain them (b) Case harden the outer cones. I realise that the extra expense of alternative (b) is probably considerable due to the fact that with the double heating the distortion of the dogs in the bore will require grinding operations to give us the finished jobs we require. I should be pleased with your comments upon the job to enable the works to proceed. Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. [Signature] | ||
