To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Phantom II Springing. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}5/E5.9.30

Thanks for Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/MJ.3.9.30. I cannot say that I am really satisfied with the springing of 58-GN which I am using, and I understood from you some time ago that after its first visit to Derby you were ordering up some different springs either for the front or the back, but you will remember there was not time to fit these before the August holiday and before I went away.

I will arrange to send the car up as soon as Kennett comes back from his holiday which will be the week after next.

We notice that recently the engine detonates very readily. I cannot believe that it needs decarbonizing as it has only done about 3,000 miles.

I think you might investigate the timing of the magneto as, if this is switched off, the detonation referred to seems to disappear.

The brakes, since I came back from France, have begun to squeak very badly.

It occurred to me that possibly you might like to fit the Hancock device with a view to giving it a further test for efficiency.
