(a) Not nozzles.
(b) Not quantity of fuel.
(c) Only to a limited extent turbulence and distribution of fuel and air.
(d) But time of injection because when somewhat late to keep down the maximum pressure it must be very susceptible to very exact timing of the commencement and finish of injection.

The above is the idea which leads up to the importance of trying two things. The first, the pump right on the cylinder head, which I believe is the special wish of Mr. Pye, with which Mr. Elliott and I have spent considerable time, (and was the subject of several patents of Col. Fell) and came to a scheme for the design which we thought convenient and practical. The second idea is to endeavour to get a two stroke cycle which would allow us to run the engine nearer 1200 than 2000 without prohibitive weight, and which might make the injection problems less exacting.

It will be understood that this type requires definitely a vigorous blower (supercharger) but can be made to give any desired swirling turbulence.
