20 HP. CHASSIS FOR 10,000 MILES TEST.

This car left Derby yesterday on its way to Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence. The following is a list of new parts fitted to it :-

(1) New 'D' type steering with outside pendulum lever, larger diameter worm and nut - .700 lead.

In our opinion this new steering is a great improvement over the present 20 HP. The improvement however will be more appreciated on the Continental roads so that the run down to Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence should enable RG.{Mr Rowledge} and Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} to judge the amount of improvment.

(2) Improved support for steering column including stiffeners for dashboard.

This new support makes the mounting stiffer than when it was fixed to the dashboard. The pedals however are fairly close to this steering fixing.

(4) Strengthened front axle, modified pivots, plain bushes top and bottom, new steering lever with fixing for ball and solid with the lever.

The fact of using this new lever reduces the lock on the right hand from 36° to 33°. As the present lever which we are using is quite satisfactory and was objected to on account of appearance, we think it is better for not to sacrifice the steering lock by fitting this new steering lever.

(5) Exhaust cutout.

The H.P. gained with this cutout open is small -

1500 r.p.m. 1 HP.
2000 r.p.m. 1.5 HP.
2500 r.p.m. 2.5 HP.

(6) Frame ties.

These have been stiffened. We are doubtful whether we should add extra weight until we are certain that we are going to obtain some advantage.
