MINUTES OF CONFERENCE HELD IN DERBY ON JUNE 20TH 1933 TO DISCUSS ROAD WHEELS AND OTHER MATTERS IN CONNECTION WITH 3½-LITRE BENTLEY CHASSIS. PRESENT:- Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Minute No. 1. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said he had called the meeting to discuss the Bentley wheel question generally and with particular reference to Dunlop's quotation as set out in Royl/MG.19.6.33. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said that on the face of it, it would appear that Dunlop's price was very much too high, and after some discussion Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} instructed Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} to stop the 12 sets of Dunlop wheels which were ordered yesterday. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} instructed Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} to telephone Dunlops saying that their price is too high and that we will not pay it. We will, however, discuss the whole question with any-one they care to send over to see us and that any representatives of Dunlops will be interviewed by Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} and Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} instructed Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} to order immediately 15 sets of Rudge Whitworth Wheels of the very latest type and with the improved machining. These 15 sets will enable us to carry on without delay in chassis construction and give time to fully go into the question of price with Dunlops. It was agreed that the hub caps to be supplied with the Rudge Whitworth wheels should have the Bentley monogram as designed by E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 2. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} referred to Mr. Cowen's note - reference C15/C1S.6.33. with particular reference to the ten items which require attention on pages 3 and 4:- (1) Change speed lever handle too close to the dashboard. This you have already attended to on the open car (No.4). Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reported that this has already been attended to. (2) The facia board and central panel have been criticised and Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} is attending to this point in future production. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} is attending to this. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will write to Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} on the subject. | ||
