When this lever is drawn back so as to put the brake on, it should move back not less than 2 1/2" approximately for the brake shoes on the back axle to have enough clearance to avoid rubbing when the car is running along the road with the brake off. With the brake on and the gear lever moved forward into the position nearest to the hand brake lever, it is then possible to lift up the central floorboard.
