The difficulties of fitting taper bolts for rubber engine feet and a proposed improvement.

RUBBER ENGINE FEET.

In reply to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/LG12.12.28., there are certain
difficulties in the way of obtaining a good fit with taper
bolts on the above job.

The spring steel tempered plates are hard to
ream and the bolt holes are so long from top to bottom that the
tapers are unlikely to match the bolts.

Because of this, and for the sake of simplicity,
an ordinary reamed parallel fit was indicated in the first
place for this job, and not with a view to allowing the frame
to 'breathe'.

If the Production Dept. can provide a taper
bolt fit at the points in question we agree it should be
an improvement.

We propose to get out a scheme for using a taper
at the top end of bolt and taper ferrule incorporated with
washer at bottom end of bolt.

The bolt can be driven up and the ferrule can be
driven down when easing foot for removing engine.
