X5940 Sft.{Mr Swift} C.Ex. c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY15/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 13.8.25. 20 HP. CHASSIS. FRONT BRAKE LEVER AND LENGTH OF BRAKE ROPES. -------------------------------------------------------- We cannot, of course, be certain that the dimensions on the drawing will give the correct length of cable to position the brake lever on the front axle. The right method of obtaining the brake rope is that a shim .015" should be put between the brake lever on the front axle and its stop. The length of the brake rope should then be fixed between the centres of the levers on the equalisers and the centre of the levers on the axle itself. The correct position for the levers on the equalisers when the brakes are in the "off" position, is shewn on the drawings. The .015" shim between the levers on the front axles and their stops, is put in to prevent the ropes being slack after the car has been running a short time, it being important that there should be no unnecessary slack in the system.
