THE CLOUDSLEY ENGINEERING COMPANY LTD. SHEET 2. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd. 19th January, 1939. If the piston movement is very sudden the dashpot effect will hold back the mushroom valve and allow the disc valve to leave its seat at a much less disc deflection and consequently oil pressure. The extent to which the mushroom valve will follow the movement of the disc valve is dependent upon the acceleration of the movement. A particularly important feature of the invention is the fact that there are no interference fits in the piston and the whole assembly can be taken out of the piston by removing the spring retaining clip. The pressure characteristic can be varied by varying the number of laminae and the dashpot characteristic can be changed by simple adjustment of a regulating screw which varies the length of the spiral passage around its threads. The possibilities of an arrangement of the kind will, I know, be apparent to you at once. I have given the particulars as briefly as possible in an endeavour to save your time and yet discover your interest. If you would like further explanation I should be very pleased to send you these, or come to Derby to see you. Yours faithfully, THE CLOUDSLEY ENGINEERING COMPANY, LTD. CHAIRMAN AND MANAGING DIRECTOR. | ||
