Phantom III Induction System.

Further to our preliminary report on the above to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}4/MA.7.1.36. we herewith attach curves showing the actual power comparison between the mock-up system and LeC.4748 as taken with the duplex Stromberg carburetter having 1.5/16" chokes.

From the original results, a modification has been carried out to the hot spot to LeC.4919, in order to improve the flow from the carburetters into the branch pipes and thus lower the induction depression to that obtained with the mock-up system, whereby we hope 5-6B.H.P. of the lost 10 B.H.P. at 3750 B.H.P. may be recovered.

The other modification is to LeC.4920 in which the radius from the main pipe to the branch inlets has been made more gradual and nearer to the mock-up scheme.

At the middle speeds a loss of 5 M.E.P. is shown and at the low speeds, 2 M.E.P. It is difficult to say whether the modification will bring the scheme into line with the mock-up system at all speeds.

These are being rushed through as quickly as possible, and the following direct comparative tests will be taken -

(1) Repeat of results with the mock-up.
(2) " " " " LeC.4748.
(3) Result of the modifications LeC.4919/20.
