ST.{Capt. P. R. Strong} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. to ST.{Capt. P. R. Strong} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RECEIVED ORIGINAL OCT 1927 PHANTOM SPORTS. X8774 X8340 X4415 We send herewith N. sch. 2474. shewing some proposals for lightening the propeller shaft and thrust bearing on the Phantom. There are three items shewn - (1) a deep groove ball bearing, (2) a Schatz type ball bearing, and (3) a New Departure thrust bearing in conjunction with the existing ball bearing, and Mr. Royce would like you to test them in this order. There is also a proposal for a solid torque tube which is indicated here, but of which we shall send you a drawing on Monday. This involves some alteration to the forward bearing and its lubricating arrangements, which are indicated on this drawing. The remaining savings are the boring of the two parts of the propeller shaft. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
