Bailey - Chief Engineer} Fi. c. to Lf. Lr.{Mr Ellor} FRENCH TYPE TEST - RATING & BACKFIRE TESTS. KESTREL III S. EXP.11. Before the Delage Co. start the Type Test on their engines in France, we have decided to carry out a full rehearsal of the French Schedule on an engine at Derby. Kestrel 11 S.119 has been allotted for the tests but the preliminary rating has been carried out on Kestrel lll S. Exp.11. The latter engine has also been used for the back-fire tests in order that we may see if the safety conditions imposed by the French Schedule are likely to damage the engine. Kestrel lll. S. EXP.11 will be stripped and examined for any damage before starting the full rehearsal on Kestrel 11 S.119. CONDITIONS OF TEST. Engine - Kestrel lll S. Exp.11 (Std. fully boosted 6/1 C.R. Kestrel. Fuel D.T.D.134. Oil - Silvertown P.4. (Kestrel ll.S.119 will be run on Castor P.2. Plugs - Lodge A.2. All tests were run under standard water cooled conditions. TESTS CARRIED OUT. Appended hereto is a copy of the part of the French Schedule Air 6105 which concerns these tests - i.e. sections 5&7. and also a copy of the altitude corrections from Air 6101. Rating Test. (Section 5 of Schedule Air 6105/1. (Altitude corrections to A.6101. Curve 279 'P' attached is a full throttle power curve taken with a pressure in the air intakes equivalent to atmospheric at 11,500 ft. The normal (Ground Level) power is given and also the altitude power as arrived at by both English and French corrections.
