31. EX. - PHANTOM III

The Car has come in with both rear Brakes rubbing. The weather is atrocious, with the result that grit has jammed all four brake levers situated on the carrier plate.

We have dismantled both rear brakes complete N.S. & O.S. taken off the bracket containing the needle bearing for the lever and found them full of dirt. The pin being made of soft steel for hardened pins to work on, has naturally had grooves worn in by the needles. The Needles will not revolve and bind cross ways. We are endeavouring to make the job work as we cannot go on with brakes jamming because wet weather has arrived. The Brake pull off springs are not any too strong to overcome any tightness that may arise.
