To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} Ha/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}5/MJ.21.5.31. X.5250. X.7250. Y7250. RADIATOR ANTI-SPLASH VALVE. Owing to the Dermatine washers in the original radiator anti-splash valve swelling out we have had a case of a radiator bursting. This was reported to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} who gave us LeC.2899, incorporating a metal valve. It is very important that every car fitted with the Dermatine valve be replaced by this metal valve; if this is not done it is very certain that every radiator will burst the first time the engine water boils. Will you please arrange for the necessary instructions to be issued to cover this. The metal valve should be fitted up to the reduced limits recently arranged with By/SS.{S. Smith} to ensure that the valve has the correct loading and sufficient lift when assembled. We understand from E's. covering memo for LeC.2899 that this is a temporary measure and that we may in the near future expect from him a revised filler and valve giving a greater margin of safety.
