PHANTOM III PRODUCTION CHASSIS, WITH HYDRAULIC TAPPETS. COLD STARTING USING MOBILOIL ARCTIC After 15 hours in the cold chamber with the automatic control at 20°F the oil temperature in the sump was -1½°C or 29°F, the starter motor was able to turn the engine at 45 R.P.M with the clutch disengaged. Both sides of the petrol pump worked satisfactorily. After turning the engine for 7 seconds it fired and ran unevenly for approximately ½ minute and then stopped, this occurred three times and finally with the throttle fairly wide and still fully choked it continued to run, slowing down and spitting in the carburettor and picking up again. This continued for about 2 minutes when the spitting ceased, and the choke was weakened off but the engine still continued to misfire and not until 10 minutes and the water temperature rose to 50°C did it pick up/all 12 cylinders. on A.J.Gardiner. | ||
