Swaying and Unstable Steering. x.3441. x.457 With reference to experimental work on the above, we have certainly been able to demonstrate with cars on test that the unstable swaying of the car can be cured by increased backward pivot lean, which Capt. Hallam also confirms from comparative tests he has made on the same car, the vertical pivots giving bad results, and the 3/8 lean being quite satisfactory. We appreciate that this backward lean will probably produce steering wobbles sooner or later, but we have been able to produce this wobble on newcars on test. We also made a short test of the car with the steering pivot balls thrust bearing replaced with a plain bearing (fibre disc) as supplied by you, and can certainly appreciate the difference as regards the steering being less easy. We feel that this test is worth persevering with, as it may be a solution to the cure of the steering wobbles or present 'easy' steering. EP{G.
