PRIVATE X676 W/Paris. To Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}10/KT.3.8.33. Re: Holidays. We have arranged to let you have a car for your holidays. With regard to insurance, this is now compulsory as far as Third Party is concerned. We have an arrangement now whereby officials can be covered for Third Party risks when driving one of the firms cars for Private Purposes. This scheme is handled by 'Tr{Capt. F. W. Turner - Finance}' in London, and we have asked him if he can bring you in on this for a period of one month from the 9th of August. We have asked him to write you direct and let you have any necessary certificates of insurance. The driving licence is a little more difficult, there is no scheme whereby a temporary licence for one month is obtainable. Nowadays it is a more difficult matter to obtain a driving licence than it used to be, it can only be done by personal application, and in the event of any physical disability it is necessary either to submit to a driving test or to satisfy the authorities that you are capable of driving safely. All this of course entails a certain amount of trouble and messing about. We have asked our shipping office people about it and they suggest that it may be better for you to obtain either an international driving permit or some other equivalent temporary driving permit from the R.A.C. in Paris on the strength of your current French driving licence. If we can help you any more in this matter we shall be pleased to do so on hearing from you. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} | ||
