Bowering - See me. P TO EY. Copy to RMO. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/MS. ------------------ x 351 BENTLEY & SPECTRECodename for Phantom III. With reference to LoC 4041 and the Detail of the same B 1414, we agree that this part may be replaced on both SpectreCodename for Phantom III and Bentley chassis by a similar part of increased dimensions as shown on the gauge-maker's print Y44733. We note that this part has been called for in brass of 18 gauge (.048). We think that it could be made in steel .022" thick tinned. The Order Office have very kindly ascertained from the Makers that this is possible without difficulty. In order to reduce the cost, and now that the weight has been reduced, we are prepared to delete the rectangular hole in the base, so saving the cost of blanking. Since rivets in the bottom of the tank are a potential source of leakage we suggest that the number of rivets be reduced to four, disposed one in each corner of the base, which should prove ample in view of the fact that this part is tinned and sweated to the tank body.
