To EA. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to C.J. " " BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} " " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " " CK.{Mr Clark} ORIGINAL. 5 X3210 Re 20 H.P. VALVE GEAR. X3586 We send you herewith drawing No. LeC.1201 giving an arrangement of the above. The camshaft drive shewn is traced from LeC.1120. The worm gears on this drive will require modification to suit the new dimensions given between the centres of the camshafts, and the vertical driving shaft and tube will require lengthening to suit the higher position which the camshafts occupy on LeC.1201. Further to the above, attention is drawing to alterations to the worm wheel casing to suit a smaller camshaft casing than hitherto shewn, and to the reduction of the front camshaft journal diameter from .800" to .750". Certain small modifications will be required to the cylinders. The valve spring recesses which originally existed at "X" on the drawing have been removed and the valve springs raised. Water connections between cylinders and to radiator should now only be provided on the exhaust side of engine, and should be as shewn on the main side elevation. The end water jacket plug holes of the cylinders should be made as in section "A". These, together with the water jacket connection holes, have been moved with the object of commanding a clear view through the core-ways above the valve bends. Standard 2 BA hexagons should be used for the locking bolt and nut on the valve tappet lever and they should be operated by a standard 2 BA spanner. (Contd.) | ||
