Rolls-Royce Limited, Nightingale Road, DERBY. RECEIVED 18 APR 1940 For the attention of Mr. D.G. Abbot-Anderson.) Dear Sirs, We are in receipt of your letter of the 15th, and note that you are desirous of obtaining information of our new aluminium alloy which was recently discussed with Mr. Hall. We regret that at the moment, we have not a great deal of information which we can place at your disposal, although we have been working continuously on this alloy now for some very considerable time. The alloy has a 12% straight Magnesium Aluminium Alloy, made up from very pure materials and with the addition of very small percentages of the rarer materials. Our chief interest has been in the production of sheet material, having exceedingly high physical properties combined with a high anti-corrosive quality, the alloy being practically unattacked by both acids and alkalis. This alloy however is very difficult to work or manipulate, and we are endeavouring to produce such parts as rotors for instance by means of pressing, but it is very difficult at the present stage to prophesy what success we shall achieve.
