further, and the efficiency of the axle under operating conditions is still too low, compared with the hypoid bevel type, to merit consideration.

The attached list E.1/HP.29.1.37 summarises the present position of the worm drive technique.

Points we learned which may be applicable in other directions are that a Schatz bearing with the inner race split instead of the outer race has been found to be an improvement. Differential cases might be further stiffened with advantage, and the bellows gland with bronze seal is superior to the carbon ring type for retaining lubricant.
