EPICYCLIC 3rd. SPEED GEARBOX. Herewith we send N. Sch. 3271. shewing a proposed method of temporarily fitting a brake to the sun. It will be seen that we have done several things which would not be permissible on a production job but which we think will be suitable for this test. We have tried to make as few new pieces and alterations to existing pieces as possible but it seems desirable to make some. We think this brake may prove to be a consider-able improvement in handling the box and will enable the timing of the 3rd. speed change to be much less exacting than now.
