IMPERIAL AIRWAYS LTD. TELEGRAMS: IMPAIRLIM, LONDON. TELEPHONE: VICTORIA 2211. AIRWAY TERMINUS, VICTORIA STATION, LONDON, S.W.1. (handwritten) rlooo, C.E. HLH/LT/3802. 22nd February, 1936. - West, Esq., Aero Engine Department, Messrs.Rolls Royce Limited, DERBY. (underlined) Dear Mr.West, K.L.G. WIZARD SPARKING PLUGS (underlined) Would you kindly let me know whether you received the sample 14 m.m. Wizard plug which our Mr. Hayward sent to you recently and, if so, will you please let me have any comments on it you may care to offer. No doubt Mr. Hayward told you that this plug is one of a batch which was used throughout the Type Test of the Panther X. Engine. It may interest you to learn that the Wizard plug was successful in the Type Test of the Tiger VII Engine after considerable trouble had been experienced with other types. It is also doing very well in a 250 hours test of a Pegasus X.C. Engine at Bristol and I have been told that it is by far the best plug yet tried in that engine. I am told that it has been suggested that the Wizard has a greater tendency to promote detonation than other types but, on the other hand, I am told by a representative of one engine building Firm that careful tests on single cylinder high-duty units have completely failed to support this theory and to this I may add that tests made on our test bed at Croydon were held by those present to prove that the Wizard was definitely better in this respect than another well-known make. | ||
