Timing Gears (Continued).

After an attempt to quieten, though much better, these were not up to standard production quietness.

Further investigation is to be carried out on the second unit which, though fitted up with good bedding, still whines.

OVERHAUL.

Water Pump Bend.

On each unit it has been necessary to saw the pump bend in half and insert a rubber joint in order to face up. Is this not a forewarning that we ought to try a gland scheme (Phantom III) which allows for some tolerance ?

Drive between Dynamo and Water Pump.

The actual shaft ran badly out of line, this being possible even if the water pump is lineable with the dynamo. Would it not be better to have one end of the drive splined, using the existing spring coupling at the other end ?

If the existing arrangement is thought to be the best, should not the coupling arm at one end of the shaft be at rightangles to the other and not in line as at present ?

Oil Level Indicator.

Whilst running, the indicator is continually moving over half of its range, due to some form of surge or splashing in the lower half.

Carburettor.

The throttle return spring badly fouls the hot spot, also the throttle stop screw is awkwardly placed from behind the carburettor and not in front as standard.

Oil Pipes.

The oil pipe which runs to the cylinder head as the rocker feed incorporates a bend which almost fouls the dynamo fan.
