X8070 A considerable amount of work has been carried out on this recently but unfortunately we have not been able to obtain any other arrangement of pipe which for all round conditions is better than our present standard. We have not been able to reproduce the advantages we anticipated from the slot The standard arrangement of induction pipe heating on the Phantom is very good - we are able to appreciate this more when we attempt to improve upon it. We believe there are very real advantages in the rapid warming up due to the exhaust heat and choke valve. Before we fitted this, piston seizures were much more frequent and a large number of cars which came in for repair shewed signs of partial seizure having occurred at some time. There does not appear to be any other means except by exhaust heat to get consistently good distribution on a cold engine. We can make one pipe which may give exceptional results but we cannot reproduce it. A full report on the work which has been carried out is being prepared. (Signed) Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
