BENTLEY.6 UNIT Report on condition of engine unit stripped for examination after 60 hrs. endurance test. Crankcase & Bearings Crankcase top and bottom halves - condition good. Main bearings - slight rolling of metal over radius on Nos. 3,5 & 6. Front thrust face cracked and metal rolled over radius on No.7. Soldered joint cracked at rear collar of oil gallery pipe. Crankshaft Signs of tightness on No.5. crankpin. Otherwise in good condition. Pistons Two top rings tight in all pistons except Nos. 1 & 6. No.3. Piston scrap due to breaking of stop in second ring groove. No.2. Piston cracked between one end of horizontal slot and bottom ring groove, and one of the internal ribs is cracked just below the crown. No.4 Piston cracked through gudgeon pin boss. See attached blueprint. Indifferent bedding on all pistons. Connecting Rods Connecting Rods in good condition. Bearings in fair condition. Nos. 3 and 5 scored. Continued. | ||
