ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. x 8991 Oy5-E-1826 January 8, 1926. Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives, Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby, England. Dear Hives: Re Phantom I find several of your letters not answered and am going to do it now if constant interruption will permit. First of all however I want to thank you very much indeed for giving us hints of possible future developments, which have been of the greatest possible help. To begin with yours of November 16th. I sent you very fully on December 1st a complete schedule of what we proposed to do and when. There is no change to this schedule except - (1) We have held the intake pipe and bend at 100 sets in C.I. with wooden pattern equipment, in the belief that your new aluminum pipes will come through for the remaining 200 cars of the series. (2) We have had several more or less crazy schemes for the extra oil but have finally got down to a pipe on the right hand side of the engine inside the tappet chamber in the crankcase, and therefore entirely out of sight, squirting oil through a hole in the projecting sleeve of the cylinder casting on to the "pressure" side of the piston as on the present Silver Ghost. It will be coupled to pilot jet operation only and will use existing extra oil valve. If proved unnecessary it can be left off without any damage | ||
