Test report on the failure and performance of Firths Silco Manganese and American leaf springs.

In conjunction with these tests we have tested a pair of Firths Silco Manganese springs of the same loading :
these failed after running as follows :-

O.S. spring (1150 lbs.) after 21 hrs. 5 mins. Top leaf broken between 1st. and 2nd. rebound clip.

N.S. spring (1100 lbs.) after 36 hrs. 55 mins. Top leaf broken 9" from rear shackle. Also 3rd. 6th. 7th. and 8th. leaves from the top broken.

The life of the American springs is very satisfactory as for the same weight of material they have 27% greater initial deflection.
