84199 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} Hotel de France, Chateauroux, France, 18.2.33. We have to report the complete wreck of 19 EA on the 17.2.33. time approximately 11 a.m. A.{Mr Adams} W. Roberts and A.{Mr Adams} Taylor were with the car when the accident occurred. Taylor was driving the car. The accident was due apparently to the OS rear tyre going flat on a corner, the car became unmanageable and skidded completely round, finally hitting a tree, the contact being practically opposite the dashboard of the NS{Norman Scott} smashing it right in. Both doors on this side were broken off. Roberts was thrown out of the car into the centre of the road. A.{Mr Adams} Taylor had his right hand deeply cut between the first and second finger, the rest of the hand was badly bruised. Apart from shock no other damage has been done. We were informed of the accident by telephone (Roberts telephoning) Mr. Bijotat immediately got his car out and with myself and Pattinson proceeded to the scene of the accident. We took both men to an hotel, gave them food whilst waiting for our other car to arrive. They were then taken back to Chateauroux and attended to by a doctor. Both men are badly shaken up. A.{Mr Adams} Roberts has a clot of blood congealed on his chest. Leeches were used to draw it away, his foot was very much swollen and until the swelling goes down we cannot state exactly what is wrong. Taylor was injected to prevent tetanus and his hand dressed. An X-ray was taken of his hand, but showed no bones broken. Both men are in bed at the hotel. I have had photographs taken of the scene of the accident which will be forwarded. The car has been dispatched by rail from Culan to Paris. Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} is dealing with it from there. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} G H Hancock | ||
