X.963 To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. c. to Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} c. to P. c. to Ds. c. to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG2611.20. X.963. - STEERING ON 40/50 CHASSIS. X.1295. X.2628. We are making preparations to carry out comparative tests as instructed by you, to see whether we can find any difference in the steering of a car with springs with the bottom leaf split and springs with a solid bottom leaf. Comparative tests on springs are most difficult to judge. We suggest making some clips so that we can clip the present split bottom leaf together in several places so as to reduce its flexibility. Although this will not be identical with the solid leaf, we think that it will alter tremendously the sideflexibility of the springs and should enable us to judge, whether there is any improvement. We shall, of course, try with a solid leaf as well but we are afraid that the time taken to change the springs over, one will have lost sense of feel of the split leaf. X.3910 Arrangements have been made so that a set of the new type rear shock absorbers will be taken to the South of France to be fitted on to Mr. Dr Salamanca's car immediately. We shall give the Mechanic who is taking these, some of the clips we suggest so that they can try decreasing the side flexibility on Mr. De Salamanca's car, if the shock absorbers do not overcome his complaint. lls | ||
