We have made experimental dampers which overcome the squeaking. R.{Sir Henry Royce} however considered that they were too heavy and for the 'India' car he designed a lighter type. The damper fitted to the 'India' is considerably more effective than those fitted to previous 20 HP. cars. It is not however easy to fit this damper to existing cars. Not only does it mean turning down the brake drums, but it also means extensive alterations to the aluminium protecting cover for the brakes. We believe it would be possible, if R.{Sir Henry Royce} approved, to modify the damper fitted to 'India' cars so that it could easily be applied to existing 20 HP. cars. We still have occasional squeaking from the front brakes. These brakes are not provided with dampers nor is there any design at present contemplated. The squeaks which occurred on 9-G-111 in France were, we believe, from the front brakes. At least, we are sure, when the car arrived at Derby the squeaking which occurred was from the front brakes. The squeaking problem is akax always receiving attention. For instance, this week we have received some new type braking material from Messrs. Ferodo which they claim will prevent squeaking. contd :- | ||
