Replying to BY/CGH{W Clough}19/G261028., we send herewith N. scheme 2758., shewing what we propose should be done to overcome this trouble.
We suggest that the first thing is to modify the mud excluder. When the brakes were first designed the edge of the brake drum and the brake carrier coincided, but now with the mud excluder there is no need for this, so that the latter can be made flat against the brake carrier, and save a fair amount of room.
We then suggest that the lower lever should be set in the plan view. The resulting increased inclination of the rod rather improves its geometry than otherwise.
We are not sure what is meant by your remark that the inclination of the brake drums is greater than before, as this was not intended, the brake drum lying at 1° as previously, and the pivots at 2½°.
