- 2 - Lucas were also asked why if, as their own people told us, clear lenses would still further improve the illumination, they still fit lenses which are not clear. In reply to our enquiries we are told by Lucas that they have sound reasons for recommending and using frosted bulbs and lenses which are certainly not clear, and suggesting that we should arrange for a Representative to go to their Works at Birmingham so that their Mr. Neill could demonstrate just what are these reasons. I shall be glad if you will arrange for someone to go across at a conveniwnt time for the demonstration to be made and to hear the results. Our point is that if bulbs of clear glass give greater illumination without any attendant disadvantages, then we ought to standardise them right away. In this connection we do not look upon the fact that they may dazzle drivers of on-coming cars as a disadvantage because, as mentioned above, one has an anti-dazzle device which one ought to use anyway. If, in addition, we get further advantage from the use of clearer lenses to the lamps, then we ought to have such clearer lenses forthwith. C./ | ||
