Gearbox trouble and damaged parts in an Austin 8 HP - 1939 Model.

Austin 8 HP - 1939 Model.

We have recently had trouble with the above car, at a total mileage of 18,000 miles.

The gearbox had become noisy and continually jumped out of the gears.

The following parts were found damaged :-

The spacing washers had broken away from the 3rd motion shaft thus allowing the cones and gears to move out of position.

The 2nd speed gear and syncro cone were found cracked.
