Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre. France. To: "Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}" From: G.W.Hancock. Report on chassis 93 MK after 25,071 miles. ENGINE. Power. This has kept very good throughout tests. Lubrication of cylinders. This has been even. No shortage of oil has occurred. The lubrication has increased during tests, until over-lubrication has fouled plugs. Condition of cylinder walls. These are in a very good condition from surface point of view. The wear of same will be measured when the car returns to Derby. Valves & fittings to E.2217 B. We have had no trouble with these since curing tappet rod squeak. Valves & guides are in good condition as also are rocker arms & bearings. Pistons. We have now a knock with No. 5. There is a heavy carbon deposit on all pistons. Examination shewed pistons in a good condition. Periods. We have been very free from these throughout the test, the engine being particularly smooth. Engine gears. These have been quiet & have given no trouble. We have not noticed any rattle in them. Engine case. There is a slight leak of oil from rear bearing. Otherwise the case is free from oil leaks. Water pump & Drive. Water pump fitted with white metal packing washer E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 70631. These are still in good condition. There is a slight leak of oil from pump drive housing. Controls to Sch. 625. A fair amount of slack has now developed in controls, chiefly where the compensating device is situated for ignition. | ||
