The boat upon which this particular gun is installed has been on active service and the breech mechanism was found to be in a very rusty condition as the result of exposure to rain and sea water. No provision has been made for protecting the exposed mechanism of the gun under these conditions, nor does there appear to have been any attempt on the part of the crew to prevent formation of rust on the working parts.
