6-B-IV. BENTLEY.

Faults reported during clutch tests.

Engine - Oil pump very noisy priming cold. Starting and idling poor. Carburetters require setting.
Tappets noisy set at .004" and .006".
Thrash period on engine gears at 800 r.p.m.
Noticeable roar above 40 m.p.h.
Petrol pump audible standing by car but not from driver's seat.
Occasional misfires at speed, but difficult to reproduce.

Engine Mounting - Front end movement felt, possibly due to high torque rubbers on raised front mounting.
Engine tremors felt on pick up from low revs.
Starting handle would not enter dog until extra clearance was given in guide on radiator cross member, by reducing diameter of sleeve which forms dog on handle.

Gear box - Syncromesh below standard.
Gear lever occasionally sticks in gate, possibly due to flexible engine mounting.

Rear axle - Slight uneven hum on over-run has developed.

Brakes - Squeaks and crackles.
Do not always pull evenly.

Wraith type Steering - Improvement on standard. Light for parking.
Would be preferred if lighter on corners.

Suspension - Tests on various settings for Armstrong dampers in progress. It appears that sufficient control may be obtained with 185 lbs. maximum load.

Oversize Tyres - Various tests carried out and required for comparison between standard and silent treads, and against standard section tyres.

Instruments - Mileage recording of A.C. speedometer not correct.
