- 2 - BY.5/G.10.1.38. For the Bentley, the price in question is .- £1. 14. 10d. plus 2/7d. for grinding and plating the secondaries making a total of .- £1. 17. 5d. Considering the evidence before us, it is clear that Messrs. Woodheads from their own experience were satisfied that they could not safely negotiate the stresses we were using unless they ground the leaves, they therefore rough surface ground the leaves all over, with the result that they obtained a very much increased life over Firths, but their prices had risen in consequence, so that when quoting for similar springs there was a very small difference, as pointed out above between Woodheads and Firths. In view of the foregoing, I think the information accumulated shows conclusively that it is necessary in the interests of reliable springs to carry on our previous procedure, and in view of all the facts I am definitely of the opinion that the prices quoted by Firths for springs, completely ground and plated viz :- (a). For Wraith £2. 18. 11d. (b). For Bentley £1. 17. 5d. are reasonable charges, as evidenced by the quotations put forward by Messrs. Woodheads. By BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
