To: "Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}" DERBY. 81435. SEVRES Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/VA3/Dn23.12.32 re Anti-Freezing Compounds. ----------------------- One of our customers, Mr André Péreire, owner of Chassis 114-WJ, has very recently asked us to give him information concerning the best anti-freezing solution to use. [Handwritten: £1.10-0 per ton.] After referring to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LID{A. J. Lidsey}1/MA5.3.32 on this subject, we recommended Mr Péreire to use Ethylene-Glycol or Trimethylene-Glycol, as being the most suitable compounds, and we gave him full instructions as to the percentage to be used, plus mixing details. This gentleman has now written to us that Trimethylene-Glycol does not exist in France, although Ethylene-Glycol can be obtained, but, according to him, costs Fcs.30.- per kilo. He adds that the total cost of the compound needed for filling up the water system would amount to .....Fcs.350.- which he naturally finds very expensive. Will you, therefore, kindly let us know the cost to an owner in England of a sufficient quantity of one or the other of the above compounds to afford proper protection against frost. What is the price of the Prestone compound? [Handwritten: 11/6 per gallon!] We do not know whether this particular product can be obtained in France. [Handwritten: Only 1 gall purchased.] We should be much obliged if you could let us have the above information, as we would like to help Mr Péreire as much as we can, he being rather a special and important customer over here.
