-6- Contd. A system recommended by the "Solex" carburetter Co. and used in conjunction with a twin Solex carburetter which we tested on the Phantom, proved to be very efficient and simple. (See diagram) - [DIAGRAM] SHORT PIPES FROM EACH MANIFOLD EXH. MANIFOLD. INON PIPE. HOT SPOT TWIN CARBS. "SOLEX" SYSTEM [/DIAGRAM] The gas circulation depended entirely upon the pulsation set up between the two exhaust manifolds but we have proved that the efficiency depended upon having very short leads to the hot spot. We tested out a similar scheme on the S.S. engine, but by taking well asbestos p lagged pipes from each of the outer exhaust pipes over the engine to the hot spot, but got practically no heating due to the exhaust pulsations being of too short an amplitude to cause the hot gas to play to and fro over the hot spot. Having stated that we consider the cold distribution of the S.S. induction system better than the Phantom, that we have a smaller temperature range with the carburetter removed from the exhaust side and that water heating of about 70°C | ||
