| VICTOR M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} TYLER, TRUSTEE FOR SPRINGFIELD MANUFACTURING CORPORATION, DEBTOR BREWSTER BUILDING LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. TEL. STILLWELL 4-7100 November 22, 1935 Mr. Ben. Pope, c/o Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby, England. Dear Ben: Re: Bentley No. B-78 EF (Swenson) Mr. Swenson has asked me to write you and have you confirm what make of lining is used on the present Bentleys. I assume this is Feroda, although we have had no occasion so far to carry out any brake work on any of the Bentleys in this country and are not positive of this. Will you, therefore, please advise? Mr. Swenson's question was brought about through the fact that he finds the brakes on his Bentley are most inefficient for a few miles after the car has been washed, which gives one the impression that water apparently enters the brakes and renders the linings inefficient - he states dangerously so. Will you kindly advise whether you have had any experience in this direction or any complaint of this nature and if there is any remedy for it? He has also asked me to inquire whether you have had any experience in the use of Benzoil mixture. He contemplates using a gas, used in this country, called Amoco, which is supposed to have a Benzoil content. He would like to know if this would be detrimental in any way to the engine. We have already advised him that we did not know of any reason why it should be. While writing you, I would also like to know if you have had any trouble in England with corrosion of the exhaust systems. On all our cars, both of British manufacture and our own, we have very rapid corrosion of the silencer tubes and units. I, personally, think this can be attributed to the use of Ethyl treated gasoline. Would like some expression from you on this subject also. We have also had a number of hot throttle jackets which have cracked and would like to know if you have been encountering this condition and if there is any apparent cause which you have been able to find for this, and whether any changes have been made in the present construction to eliminate this. Very truly yours, SPRINGFIELD MANUFACTURING CORPORATION H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} A.{Mr Adams} Adkins Maintenance Manager. HA:AG | ||
