To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} 600 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}6/JH.20.6.38. Wraith Car 25.G.VI. We are sending the above car into the fitting shop for attention to the following jobs - (1) Check over relative alignment of engine and change speed lever. This car has given continual trouble with the gear box. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} was again stuck on a hill in 1st. gear last week end. This job should be treated very seriously because we want to know if we are likely to get the same thing happening to a customer. (2) Examine rear axle gears - very noisy. Inform Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} when gears are ready for inspection. (3) Fit present standard rear exhaust silencer i.e. 6.00" longer than the one at present fitted, and give more clearance to intermediate pipe. The front downtake pipe and box for this car were taken off and fitted to Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}'s wraith 27.G.VI and the present one has never been properly fitted to this car. We would like the inner pipe in the rear silencer to be welded to the baffle which carries the top hats, and the outer edge of the baffle to slide in the barrel instead of being welded. This is a scheme to cure rattles in the rear silencer. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} | ||
