-2- Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/MH.{M. Huckerby}8.12.39. The tanks by their capacity followed by the word "side" or "rear" to denote whether or not they permit of a spare wheel being carried at the rear. A definite specification for each unit would have to be tabulated in L.O.P.'s and any deviation from this specification detailed in writing. When several modifications had become more or less standardised, the unit nomenclature could be followed by a number denoting a certain specification. As an example:- R.60 4.26 lit. Alum (1) 2.75 journals. The (1) might refer to R.R. spring drive and 6.4 C/R head to ExS.1383. The letters L.H. at the beginning of a specification would, of course, denote that the necessary items were left handed. ___________ This number arrangement may become too involved, but I thinkis worth trying.
