X4012. To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}6/MJ.16.9.29 X.4012 X.5770 We have today despatched to you the thermostatic element from the Chrysler car radiator. We are taking measurements of travel of these elements and the effort they have to produce to over-come the radiator friction, and will let you have the figures in due course. In connection with the further developements on the 20 HP. engine, we are a t present moment having considerable trouble in dealing with oil leaks into the clutch casing from the rear main bearings. This trouble seems to have increased with the introduction of the large bore engine, and we therefore suspected that it was due to increase-d crankcase pressure but have not been able to substantiate the theory. We are still working on it but since we have always sailed rather near the wind on this feature we think that a more effective oil flinger should be provided on this point and any new design under consideration.
