COPY. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT WORKS, (Branch of Petters Limited) Yeovil. May 12th. 1919. RAR/EMS N959303. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Rd., Derby. For the attention of T. Barrington Esq. Dear Mr. Barrington, I thank you for your letter of the 9th. inst. and note with great interest all you say with regard to the question of modifying "Eagle" V1ll engines in such a way that the drive could be taken at each end of the crankshaft. In view of your concluding paragraph that the modifications would not be simple but would have to be regarded in the category of heavy pioneer work with all its attendant expenses, I do not think it is profitable at the present moment to proceed further with that particular aspect of the scheme which depends upon this particular modification. It so happens that the matter is not one to which we could come to a speedy decision. It must therefore be a matter for further consideration. Should any questions arise further I may take further opportunities of consulting you on the question. Yours truly, Robert A.{Mr Adams} Bruce. M.H. 255. A (100) (T. P.S. 619) 16-4-19 5936. | ||
