DUNLOP RUBBER CO.,LTD. TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: "DUNLOPS, PHONE, BIRMINGHAM" TELEPHONE: BIRMINGHAM CENTRAL 4108 (P.B.E.) EXTENSION No. 349. YOUR REF: Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}3/MJ. OUR REF: LJL/G.311 FORT DUNLOP ERDINGTON BIRMINGHAM November 4th, 1936. Messrs Rolls Royce Ltd. Derby. For the attention of Mr G.A. Grylls. Dear Sir, Thank you for your letter of the 31st ult., which arrived yesterday. 'We will measure the relative cornering power of the 6.00-17 tyres under the conditions you suggest. We shall have to provide special wheels for the car which we use for this purpose, but that will be quicker than taking advantage of your offer of a hub or axle. If, however, you happen to have a 6.00-17 India tyre, we should appreciate the loan of it. With regard to your final paragraph - we cannot say now whether it is possible to produce a tyre which does not lose cornering power in an inclined position, but we are giving the matter consideration. I did not acknowledge your letter of Oct. 19th on receipt, as I hoped to be able to send you the information fairly quickly, but it turned out that we had to do special deflection tests on the various rims. These tests are not complete and we are plotting the figures and hope to send you the data you want very shortly. Yours faithfully, For THE DUNLOP RUBBER CO. LTD.
