X8310 HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C. PHQ BY20/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 29.4.26. GEAR BOX. Referring to Standardization Sheets X.8310, First and Second Speed Torsionally Free Pinion, and X.8320, Change Gear mechanism suitable for spring locking of the sliding gears, as there would have been difficulty in the Works in ensuring the fact that the spring locks would be able to definitely enter fully home into their recesses, without making certain modifications to the box, we had to produce a modified box. In enquiring into this I find that by an oversight the gear box department had not instructed the torsionally free pinions. These will have to be slightly modified from the torsionally free pinion made suitable for the original box, and therefore it will be necessary for a new box to be built up and tested for running and clearance, particularly making sure that the first and second speed gears will not work out before we dare commit ourselves on the gear box modifications. I realise that the delay in this is due to this Department, but it was caused by the need to modify certain parts in order to make the production job reasonably regular and simple. BY.{R.W.
