(4) Position of manufacture of Louvres for Goshawk Radiator.

It was stated that these were getting on well but that the last item had not yet been received from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} stated that he would have the first seven cars fitted with them in about a fortnight's time and the whole 20 in about a month. These louvres will be fitted when the complete cars come back to W. from London.

(5) Reserve tank for Petrol Indicator.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to fit up a tank like the Hupmobile and report on same. This question to be brought up again after we have had more experience on Goshawk.

(6) Arrangements about Springs, Shock Absorbers & Gaiters on 40/50.

(a) It was agreed that when we have to recommend shock absorbers to a man, on an existing car, we should give the reason, viz. that cord tyres now in use require different springing to the canvas tyres formerly used.

(b) Ref. R3/M10/8/22 to Py. which reads as follows:-

(Re Thick Leaf Rear Springs."
"Never fit these to new cars. Always replace with thin leaf springs on existing cars when changing. Always change to thin leaf if customer complains. Add Hartford shock dampers to thin leaf springs also.

Since we charge a good price for the chassis, do all we know that it shall be the best - 1st thin leaf springs, 2nd gaiters, and 3rd shock dampers. The axle will then better hold the road - brakes and shunting will be more satisfactory - the car will be steadier at high speed and there will be no squeaky springs. The present cord tyres require all the damping we can give to the back axle, and even then they must not be pumped hard. - R.{Sir Henry Royce}"

The standardisation sheet for thin leaf springs and gaiters for undelivered chassis had been held up in London, pending R's consideration of EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}'s report from America, and then this conference at Derby.

(c) It was agreed that Hartford Shock Absorbers should be fitted to "complaint" cars on "all square" basis, that is to say, at a cost of £9 to customer, and that they should be fitted as standard as soon as possible.

Gaiters. - It was agreed that these should be fitted as standard as soon as possible.
